T-Stand and Poster

TheT-poster stand is a simple build. It uses wood, and the purpose is to hold 2-3 foot tall "content ad-" those flavor of the month signs you see at Starbucks is the inspiration. Use it as a "unit of the week" ad for students when they enter the room. Provides visual learning a good review every day.

The Stand
You need a 1 square foot base, a 4 foot tall 2"x2" board, an 18" 1"x3" and two 1x2 (or 3) also 18 inches. You could also get some cork for ease of tacking the poster up

Attach the base to the 4 foot pole using two 2.5 inch screws. Pre-drilling is a good idea so the board does not split. Attach the 1x3 to the top of the post in the same manner. Take the last two boards and nail then to the 1x3 and the post using brads or finishing nails. You could use remnants to close off the ends if desired. You can stain or paint to desired effect- I chose black to keep the Starbucks theme.

Poster
As for the posters, black works best for the paper, but I've used red and light blue. I get them from the Target discount section for $3. I like using Crayola metallic markers for the pictures and lettering. Simply write out key terms for each unit, and come up with images that explain them. I drew them, but you could uses pictures and glue them on. Then laminate, not just for protection, it also keeps the paper from rolling.

Coffee Talks

Student facilitated discussions. Ranging from simple discussions, to brainstorming solutions to informal debates- students own their learning and engage in collaborative and reflective conversations about timely and relevant issues connected to their course content either in subject or function.
